In Gethsemane’s dark night
He prayed with sweat of blood and fright
The weight of sins, the world’s despair
Fell heavy on His shoulders bare
The burden of our guilt and shame
He bore alone, with no one to claim
The disciples slept, unaware
Of the agony He would soon share
The cup of suffering, He did not desire
Yet, He drank it deep, with love’s pure fire
The betrayal, the scourging pain
The crown of thorns, the mocking stain
The cross He bore, the weight so great
The journey to Golgotha’s cruel fate
The soldiers’ jeers, the crowd’s delight
In His suffering, a sorrowful sight
The nails that pierced, the wounds so deep
The cry of “Father, why hast Thou forsaken me?” He did keep
In darkness and pain, He held on tight
To the love that shone, like a beacon in the night
The soldiers cast lots, for His robe’s design
While He, on the cross, did entwine
The thief’s repentance, He did hear
And promised paradise, drawing near
The earth did shake, the veil did tear
As Jesus yielded, His final breath to clear
The centurion’s cry, a declaration true
“This man was righteous, the Son of God, anew”
Yet in His pain, a love did shine
For all humanity, a sacrifice divine
A gift of redemption, pure and true
Through His suffering, our sins anew
May His love and sacrifice ignite
A flame of gratitude in our hearts tonight
For the pain He endured, the love He showed
Jesus Christ, our Savior, forever we’ll hold
In memory of His pain and might
We’ll follow Him, through the dark of night
With faith and hope, we’ll find our way
Through the love of Christ, a brighter day.
