Diocese of George Celebrates the Ordination of New Deacons and Priests

Diocese of George | News & Announcements

The Anglican Diocese of George joins in joyful thanksgiving to Almighty God following the Ordination of two Deacons and two Priests on 28 June 2026 @ St. Mark’s Cathedral by The Right Revd. Edwin Pockpass, celebrating the continued growth of Christ’s Church through those who have faithfully responded to His call to ordained ministry.

We are delighted to introduce the Diocese’s newly ordained Deacons:

  • Revd. Mr. Ehsanul-Lee Booysen
  • Revd. Mr. Shaun Plato

We also rejoice in the ordination to the Sacred Priesthood of:

  • The Revd. Jayed Rhodes
  • The Revd. Melanie Prinsloo

These ordinations mark a significant milestone not only in the lives of the ordinands but also in the life and witness of the Diocese of George. Having discerned God’s call and faithfully completed their formation, they now begin a new chapter of ministry in the service of Christ and His Church.

As a diocesan family, we offer our warmest congratulations to our newly ordained clergy and assure them of our continued prayers. May they be strengthened daily by the grace of the Holy Spirit as they proclaim the Gospel, administer the Sacraments, care for God’s people, and faithfully serve the communities entrusted to them. May their ministries be characterised by humility, compassion, integrity, and a steadfast commitment to the mission of Christ.

The Diocese of George also extends its sincere appreciation to Brother Roger Stewart Prior of St Benedict’s Priory, Harkerville, who served as the Retreat Conductor for this year’s Ordination Retreat. We are deeply grateful for his faithful ministry, spiritual leadership, and wisdom in accompanying the ordinands during this important period of prayer, reflection, and preparation.

Our heartfelt thanks are also extended to the entire monastic community of St Benedict’s Priory for their generous hospitality, warm welcome, and the peaceful environment they provided throughout the retreat. Their ministry of prayer and gracious hospitality enriched this sacred time of discernment and spiritual renewal, and we remain deeply appreciative of their faithful witness.

We invite every parish, chapelry, ministry, and member of the Diocese to uphold our newly ordained clergy in prayer as they begin their ministries. May the Lord continue to equip them with wisdom, courage, and perseverance, enabling them to serve His people faithfully and joyfully for many years to come.

“I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the Gospel.”
Philippians 1:3–5

Ad multos annos! May God bless each of our newly ordained clergy with faithful, fruitful, and life-giving ministries in the Diocese of George and throughout His Church.
