Young Voices Raise Awareness on Water Stewardship During National Water Week

Yesterday, in celebration of National Water Week in South Africa (16-20 March), the parish of St. Alban the Martyr’s Green Anglican Team was privileged to host a meaningful and inspiring presentation by the learners of Heidedal Primary School in Borchards, George. The event took place at St. Alban the Martyr, Pacaltsdorp, where young scholars delivered a powerful poem highlighting the importance of water conservation and responsible usage.

The presentation formed part of a broader effort to raise awareness about the critical role water plays in sustaining life and the urgent need to protect this precious resource. Through their heartfelt words and confident delivery, the learners reminded all present that water is not only essential for survival but is also a shared responsibility entrusted to every member of society.

Hosted within the welcoming space of St. Alban the Martyr, the gathering brought together members of the parish, and especially the Green Anglican Movement. The church setting provided a fitting backdrop for reflection, reinforcing the Christian calling to stewardship of creation. The message conveyed by the learners resonated deeply, encouraging both young and old to reflect on their daily use of water and to commit to more sustainable practices.

National Water Week serves as an important reminder across the country of the environmental challenges we face, particularly in regions affected by water scarcity. The contribution of the learners from Heidedal Primary School stands as a testament to the vital role that young people play in shaping a more responsible and conscious future.

The Diocese expresses its sincere appreciation to the school, the educators, and all who made this event possible. It is through such collaborative efforts that awareness is raised, hearts are moved, and meaningful change is inspired.
